If you want to get Note 2 in T-Mobile, you probably have to wait al least till the end of this year. The Galaxy Note was just brought into T Mobile a few weeks ago only. $149 should be a good deal, although everybody knows the price will drop.
Dell Streak 5 is actually a decent phone, although the design and build quality need improvement desperately. The problem is that Dell over-priced it in most markets, and they are too slow in software update and bug fixes.
Galaxy NoteMemberIf it is from 4..0.3 to 4.0.4, this is a minor bug fix, with minor new features (pop up play, in some regions, and unlock by signature).
The build number is for developers to track the modifications (versions). The first part indicates it is in ICS 4.0.4 truck, the second part is region-specific.
Galaxy NoteMemberVery likely, the app has some issues.
Battery drain is fast when GPS is always on. However, even for navigation, it should last close to 3 hours. For your case, very likely, the app is trying to track your track. So, the GPS is actually always on. Normally, the GPS will turn off automatically when it is not in use., and therefore, the power consumption by GPS can be very marginal
If you just want to locate your position, you can use many simple location apps.
To save battery on GPS, you may enable Use sensor aiding (settings–location services)
Galaxy NoteMemberTry the Agenda widget. Everything should show there.
Galaxy NoteMemberNot a popular site. But I will try to answer questions at lest once each day. There are a few active members in the comments section.
Galaxy NoteMemberYou can, but not so simple.
Method 1: change the LCD density (dpi). You need root your phone, then there are some helps helpo you change the dpi. This usually causes problems and may mess up your phone. Not receommeded.
Method2: some launchers allow you to change the icon size, maybe ADW.Launcher, or go launcher. This is safe!!
Galaxy NoteMemberThe Galaxy Note will be announced this month, but the shipment will be probably in October or November. Some regions and some carriers will start to sell it even later.
The good thing for users who want to grab one now is that the price should start to drop considerably probably before the announcement.
I remember the launching price for Galaxy Note on ATT is $299 with two-year contract.
Probably it is good time to grab one if you can get it free now, if you are happy with it. Actually , Jelly Bean (4.1) update for Galaxy Note is on the way (Q4/12-Q1-13) .
Galaxy NoteMemberYou may try (I assume your Note has been updated to ICS):
1). go to settings–Pen settings–Dominant hand, change it to left handed, then change back to right handed, and see whether the screen responds to the S Pen.
2)if not, change the screen rotation several times, to see whether the screen responds to the S Pen
3)if not, go to settings–Display, try horizontal calibration ,and Gyroscope calibration
4). if still not working, go to local Samsung service center, or vendor”s shop for a check or replacement.
Galaxy NoteMemberWhat do you mean “not see it”?. At least, you should be able to use it as finger.
Some apps can recognize it, some not. You can try to start memo or S Note to find out whether the S Pen can be recognized.
Sometimes, for some operations, you need press the button in the S Pen.
Galaxy NoteMemberIf the OS (in this case, Android) wants to get your private information, you have no way to block it, because all info is managed by the OS.
Many people trust Android because its source code is open (although less than 0.01% users ever read the source code). So, there are no hidden backdoors. This is fundamentally different from iOS, or Windows.
But as a company, Google is still a profit-driven company. The greedy Wall Streets always want to maximize their profit. It may be evil sometimes, just like the example you mentioned.
Android assigns a unique user ID (UID) to each Android application and runs it as that user in a separate process. This makes it even more secure than Linux, at least theoretically.
So in Android, no application, by default, has permission to perform any operations that would adversely impact other applications, the operating system, or the user. By default, no application can read or write the user’s private data, and another application’s files, or access network. All apps by default can access their own files only, or files you set as globally readable/writable (e.g., video files you transferred to the SD card from your PC).
When you install a new app, it will let you know what kind of access it requires. Read/Write USB storage usually means read/write own files (generated by this app). If it wants to access camera, then your camera and photos taken by the camera will be accessible for this app.
Of course, you can manually set the permissions for each file/directory using ADB shell (you need familiar with Linux first).
So, in short, you can not prevent OS from “stealing” any info on your phone. But as Android is an open source project (although there are some critics on the licensing), unlikely, it will steal your personal info. This is one of the most valuable feature of Android. Unfortunately, most people just read it as free.
It is the Apps that may do bad things, theoretically including the apps built by Google. But most of the time, it is the third-party apps. For third-party apps, they always need ask for permissions to access personal info, your only choice is not to install it.
Please note, the Encrypt device or Encrypt SD is to protect your phone in case it is stolen or lost, not for apps.
Galaxy NoteMemberFor me, it is still there. I have green phone icon and yellow message icon. Tap it will call back or bring you to the message/discussion.
If you are using third party dialer, you may switch to the in-stock one.
If you still cannot find it with the in-stock dialer/call logs, you may try to do a factory reset for your Note. Please back up your data using Kies.
Galaxy NoteMemberMost Apps need access storage (to write something) or internet. Usually you should not concern about this. If the app cannot access internet, no access to storage, it can do nothing.
If an app requires access your contact, location information, or messages, then you need check whether the app is reliable (e.g., read the reviews).
Android is based on Linux, so the privilege control is very effective and well-tested. Normally, if you don’t root your phone, the app will not able to get full control of your phone. Of course, some malicious apps may try to read the pictures and files, but usually they cannot access private info (e.g., contact list, which is manged by Android system).
The bottom line is to install apps from reliable sources (e.g., Google Play store) only. Unless it is necessary, do not root your phone.
Android is more secure than Windows phone, or iOS.
August 10, 2012 at 2:51 pm in reply to: how to send sms from note to more than 200 contact at a time #310Galaxy NoteMemberUsually GPS is more accurate for height. So, most altimeter apps use GPS instead of barometer.
There are a few apps in Google Play store using barometer as altimeter. Of course, some formulas must be used to convert pressure to height. Usually this is not accurate. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=Altimeter+Barometer&c=apps
Galaxy NoteMemberYou may try a factory reset. (settings–back up and reset). Please back up all your data before resetting.
