Smartphone is now widely used for taking photos. It will probably replace the point-and-shoot cameras in next a few years.
But one of the most annoying things of using smartphone cameras is the lack of the hardware camera button. Actually, Android phones have less and less hardware buttons and now most of them only have power button and volume rocker.
You may wonder whether you can use the volume button to take photos in Galaxy Note 4.
The answer is Yes. Actually, this is the default behavior. In other words, by default, you can use volume button to take photos in your new Galaxy Note 4 without any settings.
Both the volume up and volume down buttons work in the identical way. You can use either of them to take photos in Galaxy Note 4.
If for some reason, you cannot take photos with the volume button, or if you want to disable this feature, you can follow the following steps to change the settings for volume key in Galaxy Note 4 camera app.

Would be good if you could turn off the volume button feature entirely. It is all too easy to push it by accident when holding it sideways. Doesn’t look like this is possible?

No, the stock camera app always uses the volume buttons. You can only choose the functions. But there is no option to disable it.
Some third party camera apps may not use the volume buttons.
