I’m trying to use my Note as a golf gps but having problems (may be the golf apps fault). The apps don’t seem to see the gps satellites so won’t show me my position on the course.
Also using them runs the battery down rapidly, i.e. 9 holes of use is a max and I keep the screen off except when trying to locate my position.
Any ideas? (I’m running Android 4.0.4 in my ATT Note, SGH-I717)
Very likely, the app has some issues.
Battery drain is fast when GPS is always on. However, even for navigation, it should last close to 3 hours. For your case, very likely, the app is trying to track your track. So, the GPS is actually always on. Normally, the GPS will turn off automatically when it is not in use., and therefore, the power consumption by GPS can be very marginal
If you just want to locate your position, you can use many simple location apps.
To save battery on GPS, you may enable Use sensor aiding (settings–location services)
Thanx — will look for “better” apps
