    Thanks for the response.
That’s the problem my Samsung Notes do not have divided pages and i am keep writing in a single page of a big note. When i share as a PDF it converts based on the default paper size of the PDF driver. Is there any possible way i can adjust my Samsung Notes to the PDF default paper size ?

Mope. Samsung Notes does not support pages. Why do not use S Note? You can download it from Galaxy Store. It is still silently maintained (not pre-installed).

What happens if you share as image? The problem is probably caused by the default paper size of the PDF driver.

Annoying isn’t it. The export to PDF just puts a non-searchable, non-selectable-text image in the PDF. The code they use for PDF must be very basic. Since I use mine for work and after, I can’t use that feature. Though sometimes I export txt and PDF together.

Ultimately it means instead of converting text, I mainly use a bluetooth keyboard or sometimes the spen keyboard.

Yes, it’s annoying. But this is not uncommon. S Note is always exported as image. PDF is just something markups for texts and images. Normally, it’s simple to save your contents as images. For texts, the formatting can be very tricky.

When you exported the snote to PDF, did you choose all pages? It seems you only exported first page.

Samsung’s note app has proven aggravating and confusing. First of all, why am I not able to toggle the handwriting gridlines when I create a new note?? If I create a new note by double tapping, I should easily be able to choose between drawing a picture or making a neat handwritten note. Yet if I have a quick note I want to write, the s pen double tap shortcut is useless because in order to get the gridlines I have to go to “view all notes” and create a new note from there. They have it backwards too- the double tap shortcut gives you a blank page, supposedly to DRAW, yet you’re only given a pen. But within the note app when you create a new one, there are automatically gridlines when you write, and a blank page when you draw.

Why are there not more settings options? Why can’t we change themes/covers/paper types, etc? Wasn’t some of that available in previous models? And It is sooo not user friendly to people completely new to Androids/note 8. Come on Samsung. Maybe I’m missing something?

Samsung Notes actually is not ready for replacing the S Note app. But Samsung did it anyway in Note 8.

You can still install old versions of S Note app to Note 8.

Anyone can help explain to me why my SNote keeps on making duplicate files? I notice that this happens if I do not use SNote for a few days. It then takes time to load and when I open ot up there are multiple copies of every file! Then I have delete them and this is getting to be a headache as it occurs frequently. I am using Note 5.

Did you sync your notes with Evernote or Samsung account? If yes, The duplicated ones are due to different timestamp. You should check the synced copies. You may reset the syncing.

Any file manager apps allow you to see the full name. You can try the default My Files app. All S Notes are saved in the S Note folder.

S Note always works in this way. You need tap Save to save it. There is no auto save feature in S Note as I know.

I do see auto saves as I use SNOTE. But you need to be careful as if you swap to another app while editing you can lose some of your work. As was recommended above, do save via the tick symbol before moving any where else to guarantee a save

{Backup if you are uncertain} — I love SNOTE but it is a space hog and does not clean up after itself

SO in the thread regarding SNOTE files using a lot of space. You need root for this.

SNOTE stores multiple copies of the note in /data/data/com.samsung.android.snote/files/spensdk30. This can add up to many GB. nearly 5GB on my GNote 10.1 2014.
I have discovered that directories of snotefiles have a certain structure in the name (Hex means hexadecimal number) hex@snote file name.spd and hex@snote file name.spd@hex.

You can safely delete all of them as the main file (in [/emulated/storage/]0/snotedata/ ) is the important part

You could actually delete all of them with no impact to your snote files as they are in the SNOTEDATA

All these the temporary files these can be deleted too. (but not the oe with @ in it’s name, it is doing something different)

Even if you delete a SNOTE, it removes it from the SNOTEDATA but not the SPENSDK30 directory

If you save with a name , even default then the hex number@note_date_time.spd” or the name you choose with same hex number prefix is created they do not replace the initial tempory directories created

Plus even if you look a a snote and do noting the directory “hex@snote file name.spd” is updated.

After deleting the files SNOTE is fine and I got approx 4GB back. SPensdk30 size was reduced to 650MB (compared to my SNOTEDATA directory being 122MB and is still the larges directory after maps.

Hello, I’m a long time user of SNote on Galaxy 10.1 (2013 and 2014). I’ve had the 2014 version for 2 years. In the year x (6 or so) months I’ve been running out of space on my Tablet. So I added a 64Gb extSDCard. But despite moving as much as I could off the space kept disappearing. I’m running Android 4.4.2 so I had to root the device to use the SDCARD the way I wanted. What has this got to do with SNote?

I used Titanium backup to remove Samsung apps I did not use and still my spare slowly running out
So I did a search and discovered SNote app data is 6.1Gb!
You can verify this on apps -> all apps-> SNote app data size

The directory with all the data is in the root partition and th epath is root/data/data/com.samsung.android.snote/files/SPenSDK30.

It seems to be a folder that remembers everything you do while hand writing and attached items on an SNote. There are multiple generations for every SNote you make.

    How to clear it down.
Well simply clear application data from settings (as above), if you do this all your Snotes will be gone

So I took a copy for sdcard/snotedata (emulated/0/snotedata) which has the snotes in it.

    I clear the app data
I restarted Snote , it starts as if we are first time users (so preferences will be lost)
It allows a restore from samsung or cloud
But although the Snotes restored they appeared out of date, recent updates not on the note, though I could have been too impatient to allow it to fully restore in the background

Therefore I copied in my backup and I through I was replacing the files but I’ve ended up with 2 versions of the same file. One normal and one with _1 which are slightly different in size but seem to have the same content..

The Snotes appear to work fine

and I got 5.5Gb back after the restore completed.

Thank you for sharing your experience with other S note users. Yes, it seems there are some bugs in old S Note app taking unnecessary space for temp files. It seems it was fixed in Note 4.

Dear Simon I own a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, upgraded to android 5.0.2, note version 4.1.211504029 (should be the last)
I followed your hint but I still cannot find a way to have my text as dotted list items.

I have it in my galaxy note2: I select all text and then I can choose if I want a title, standard or a dotted list.

In the galaxy note pro I can select all text and the change color or font; or I can select the whole text area and then choose paragraph formatting options (layout, characters, paragraph, line and filling), but I cannot find in any place the way to format the text as dotted list, as it was in note2.
Is there any way to do this? Or, can I downgrade the note application and how?
    Thanks,

It’s a very sad thing to buy the top notch tablet from Samsung only to discover that it has less features than the less expensive ones.
I’m wandering if this is a move of Samsung to push customers towards everynote.
        Anyway, thanks again,

The problem is no other vendors offer similar features as S Pen. So, Samsung developers have no idea what to do with the Pen and the app.

As Samsung’s old friend Apple now offers pen on iPad Pro. Samsung will definitely get “inspirations” and we will see improvements of S Pen and S Note.

To be honest, Note Pro is still one of the best 12″+ tablets you cane get. In most regions, Samsung usually bundles home appliances with it. So the actual price is actually cheaper than many 10″ tablets.

Anyway, if you need this screen size, your choice is very limited.

They seemed to have removed the custom option when it comes to organiseing your S note order. Very bad in my opinion!

S notes are organised by folders. You can’t customize the all page.

You can move the s note by moving the corresponding file directly in My Files app or any files managers.

You can start s note, then switch to all view by tapping the homes icon in top left. Then select the s note and tap the menu icon (3 vertical dots) in top right.

There is a S Note program for pc. You can download it from Samsung website and try it.

On your new device, you can also try to clear cacahe partition. You may follow this guide http://gadgetguideonline.com/galaxys6/samsung-galaxy-s6-guides/how-to-boot-into-galaxy-s6-recovery-mode/

If the old device is still with you, you can try to manually copy one snb file to the new device in any folders, then try to open it with My Files. Choose S Note when you are asked to select an app to open it.

Sorry to hear that. Probably no easy way to recover. You need check with the app developer.

The lesson learnt: always backup it if it is important. It should take less than 1 min to share the file to Google drive, or even make a copy in SD card.

The problem starts when I tried to redo a wrong import picture and ask me to save last changes. I said not and then the problem occurs. Thank you in advance.

Then the S Note file is probably corrupted already. If you have some important media pictures or audio files in the missing pages, you can try to copy the snb file to a pc, change the extension as .zip. You can unzip it to find any media files.

You can also backup your S Note (the snb and spd files) to a safe place. Then go to Settings–Application manager- S Note, tap clear cache and tap clear data (this operation should not touch your notes; but it is always a good practice to backup your notes regularly).

You may also try to clear cache partition by following this guide: http://galaxys5guide.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-how-to-guides/how-to-enter-galaxy-s5-recovery-mode/

Reboot the phone may bring back the notes.

If not, you can manually open each snb or spd files in the folder.

Btw,you should not move any folders in the internal which are not created by you manually. If you need, you should use copy.

How can I open the huge number of my .snb files or convert them to another format? I can’t be the only one this has happened to. All of my Snotes were backed up to my samsung account.

spd is the new format. snb is the old format. Galaxy Note 4 should save in spd format. But Galaxy Note 4 should be able to open snb files and convert them to spd format automatically.

It seems S Note sometimes fails to clear the temp media files it used. You can clear cache and clear data for s note app. If the notes are important for you, backup them with Kies before clearing data. Clearing s note app data should not delete individual notes.

There are no easy way to sync s notes between note 8 and note 4. Note 8 may have problems to open a notes created in note 4.

Anyway, you can “backup” (not sync) s notes to Evernote automatically from note 4 and note 8. You can also use Kies to backup s notes to pc. You can also manually copy the s note files to any other locations.

No easy way. spd file is just a normal file.

If the file is extremely important, you should not try it yourself. Check for local professional data recovery services. It should be very very expensive, and they will NOT guarantee anything.

I am using Evernote to sync s notes. In Evernote, there will be a s note folder. If you tap a s note, it will be opened by s note app, not by Evernote.

You may test it yourself to see whether it works for you.

You can also backup s note to pc with Kies.

Not sure about any of such apps. Maybe some other users can suggest some.

Most note apps are not focused on formatting text because it’s the job of office apps .

Also most note taking apps that allow you to put text and other objects in any locations are not limited by lines. So they treat a block of text as a whole. If you need format the text differently, you need put them into different blocks.

Is there a tweak in SNote to adjust the calligraphy pen stroke width smaller than value *40* ? I’m using a Note 4 and the smallest stroke width for the calligraphy pen is too large for me. I use in real paper notes a real fountain pen with a small calligraphy nib and I do really like the typeface. In SNote the thickness of the stroke in relation to the line space doesn’t fit together.

      Probably not.

The problem is somehow due to the high DPI of the Note 4 display (but S Note pages always fill one full screen). Using smaller stoke width will make it hard to read on Galaxy Note 4 screen.

Maybe that’s the reason, Simon. But I don’t really understand why it is possible to adjust the thickness for the roller pen and the pencil down to *10*. Also for the fountain pen it is possible to adjust the stroke thickness down to *20*. All these strokes provide a good readable typeface on the Note 4’s display. Simon, do you know a Samsung developer contact to make a change request?

I guess you can feedback to local Samsung service centre. The development is behind fully closed doors. This is the big problem of Samsung: the developers are not connected to users.

Also, there are no serious third-party developers for S Pen or S Note currently.

1)it is not possible To selec default font features
    2) it is not easy or let say it could be more intuitive edit The Text during the handwriting (delete word, insert space between Two word etc…. etc.See The MyScript smart Note app)
3)it should be possible to direct convert the handwriting into text during writing (see Myscript app)

The test 2 point could really do The difference in using S Note

I would recommend Evernote. It has free handwriting features, you can handwriting text with “on the fly” convert to text, you have a mass of tagging opportunities, you can create notebooks and notebook structures, you can send emails direct into Evernote, it has integrated an OCR search for handwritten text and text in images, I use Evernote together with SNote (you can send SNotes directly into Evernote). The only advantages of SNote for me are: you can use different pen types in SNote and you can change the backgrounds in SNotes. But both apps together working nearly perfectly.

Your S Notes are saved in the snote folder in the internal storage. You can use My Files app or any other file explorers top copy them to other locations. You can also use Kies to backup them.

For the app issue, you may try to reboot the phone.

I have the Galaxy Note 12.2 Pro. Is there a way to transform text and shapes in real time like on the original Note 10.1? I’ve found selecting the items to be cumbersome when there is a lot on the page. Also is there a way to update the S Note app or does that happen when Samsung comes out with a system update?

Not, you cannot make it work in the old way. Depending on the usage and habits, some users actually find the new method more practical. You just take note when taking note with the pen. Always edit it later.

S Note is still part of the firmware, at least on note devices. You have to wait for the official firmware update to get the updated s note.

    Hey Simon,

    I have a note 4.

If I want to backup all my notes, but not to samsung account or Evernote.
I want to backup them myself (through FolderSync to one of my cloud accounts).

If I understood correctly, all I have to do is backup the ‘SnoteData’ folder and that’s it.

But what about ‘.ActionMemo’ which have all the dropdown? (also the those I deleted I noticed….)
I need to also backup them?

Oh, And settings? (Presets etc… is it possible?

    Thanks a lot!!

The official way to backup is using Kies on a pc. It is able to backup everything.

For normal s note, you just need the spd files. They are under snotedata folder in Note 4 and 3.

For action memos, they are saved in the actionmemo folder under Snotedata folder. You need copy the whole folder. Before an action is associated, it’s just a spd file.

Fir other settings, you can only backup with Kies.

So, I don’t need to backup the folder ‘.ActionMemo’ which have a subfolder ‘dropdown’ (and all the acion memo’s images under it)?

It will regenerate by itself once I have the snotedata folder backed up?

        Thanks.

Not sure about that folder. If you can find the SPD file corresponding to the action memo, you probably do not need that folder.

As mentioned, the official way to backup is using Kies on PC. If the Notes are important, do backup AND check.

I have been using s note at work for about 6 months. What I have found particularly useful is tha handwriting search. Recently I have come across an issue.

I am close to running out of internal storage. When i look at s note in manage applicationa it shows that the data used for the app is 8.34gb. However, when I look at the snotedata directory it shows it is only using 40.97mb. I have embedded many images in the notes, but not nearly 8gb worth. Besides which, the images are stored on the external sd card (though I suppose they may get copied somewhere when embedded in an s note).

If I assume correctly there is more to how s note stores its data than just the snotedata directory. Where else does data get stored?

Also, is there any way to move s notes to the external SD card?

Thanks for your help, and thank you for setting up this forum.

S Note actually embeds all videos, audios, and photos in the S Note file. Then zip it as one file. So, you can move the S Note file anywhere.

But S Note app only scans the internal storage. If you move the S Note file to SD card, it will not find it.

Very likely, your storage usage report on the snotedata is not correct. You can check the file size of each S Note in this directory.

Of course, you can clear cache for S Note in Settings–Application manager to free up some storge.

Upon further research I have found that the bulk of the s note data is in the following directory: /data/data/Com.Samsung.android.snote/spensdk30. I do not understand what this data is or if I can delete it. I suppose this might be undo data or something like that, but I am afraid to delete it.

The cache is actually quite small. The 8.34gb is all data. Clearing the cache does not change this.

I will keep looking and add more information here if I can figure this out.

This did work. I backed up my s note files and deleted most of the directories in the /data/data/Com.Samsung.android.snote/files/spensdk30 directory (note that I did this as root as opposed to deleting the app’a data from the application manager). This cleared up 10gb of space. However, s note runs very slowly now. I think it uses these files as a cache even though they are considered data (not cache) by Android. S note seems to be rebuilding these files now. I anticipate a speed up once this rebuild happens. However this will mean I will run out of space again at some point.

It seems like s note is just not made for heavy use. A shame, this is the whole reason I bought ththe tablet. The reason I chose s note over the competitors is the handhandwriting search. I use this all the time at work to find notes from old meetings. Anyone know of any alternatives to s note that also have good handwriting search capabilities? I need something that works better under heavy use.

            Thanks.

I have s-note 10.1 2014. It is now more complicated to convert
my hand-writing into text or refined shape. For text, 1 have to select the hand written text, hit on the selection
mode “the dotted shape on the menu” then hit “transform into”
and select “text”. In the old version I used to write and my hand writing was immediately recognizing and converting into text. The same was also for shape recognition. Is there anyway to do it the same in the new version (red version). It will save me a lot of time.
    Thanks,

In Note 2 S note, when one page is full, it would automatically expand to next page. Similarly, when I insert some text to middle of a full page, the excess would span to next page. But when I use Note 4, it would not jump to next page but just extend the text box. How can I get back the span page setting in Note 4?

In the note 8 tapping on the page number takes me to an edit screen, with a copy choice, but copy does not work. A workaround is to depress pen button and hold against screen to get a screens hot, then crop and check. Saved to clipboard will pop up. Then I can navigate to the notebook I want to move that page to. And use the edit function to select the clipboard item.

Yes, the notes may take considerable space. You cannot do much on this.

The S Note is perfect for a series of small notes, not a giant note with 100 pages. It is simply not designed for such notes, as I know.

For small notes, you can organize them in a folder and easily track and move them as one book.

If you cannot split your S Notes into individual notes with a few pages, probably S Note is not a good solution for you. There are probably some other professional apps for your needs.

In Note Pro or Note 3, it will directly ask you to copy pages from other notes after tap the page number.

First, you need convert the old notes to the new format. Once converted, you can copy pages to another notes.

Occasionally, backup to Samsung sever may be not reliable. You can always copy the old note files in S Note folder to the new device, then convert. You can convert them one by one so that you know which one causes the problem.

It’s how to copy a whole web page text and share it with s note, it use to b straight forward in brown s note in note 8, where u get the whole text in many pages, u can edit and do what ever u want.
In the ref s note things are really complicated , I’ll get it like an image, the whole text will be shared but it will b truncated.
Is there any easy way to fix it

As I know, there is no solution yet. The text box in new S Note simply cannot expand to next page. You can reduce the font size to accommodate more characters in one page.

    Hi,

i managed to solve it. When i open a file from my dropbox, i get a message saying: “When you move your file in the S-Note folder it will be shown in S-Note”. I always choosed ok. But then i tried Cancel. Although choosing Cancel the file opens in S-Note. I can edit it, and when choosing “save” it will be saved directly in my dropbox.

    That’s what i want.

You can open an existing note YES (from dropbox)
tap the pencil icon to enter editing mode YES
in the bottom, you can find (if the note has 4 pages), tap > to the last page YES
now the > becomes +, tap it to add new pages YES
    then take your notes YES

then i choose in S-Note “send via” (i hope the translation is good, i have a german version), select all Notes, choose the hook in the upper right corner (here i see already the predefined file name like notebook(8)(2) in the upper left corner, i can’t change the name), choose “S Note file” as file type, get a message “all pages of the s note file are selected” which i confirm with OK, choose dropbox, then i have a view on my dropbox with two buttons: “Cancel” and “Add”. I see my existing files, but i can’t choose them, they are all grayed. I choose “Add”, and now i have one more version of my notebook, in this case “notebook(8)(2).
But i don’t like to have several versions of my notebook, i’d like to have one (the most recent). I’d like to save it using an already existing file name.

      Hi Bernd,
I think your problem can’t be solved in SNote. It’s a very closed app. You can only use it well on your tablet and there is no cloudsolution. Therefore using Dropbox doesn’t work when you want to change an existing SNote file in Dropbox.
I used SNote for quite some time but now changed to Evernote. I can still write using my pencil and it synchronizes in a cloudsolution. So I can use Evernote notes made on my Samsungtablet on my desktop as well, change them, add pictures or files.
      Cheers, Ietze

        Hi,

how is the text recognition from evernote ? Is it recognized in the background as in S-Note ? Or do you have to do it explicitly ?

      Thank you for the clarification.

As letze mentioned, they is no integration between s note and Dropbox.

You can save the s note in your device. In s Note settings, you can choose sync s notes with Evernote or Samsung account. So it is not necessary to share or upload the note when you change the note locally.

Did you try this sync solution?

    Hi Simon,

i use S-Note. That’s the way i like to have it: Open a notebook, write and save it under the same name. But that does not work. S-Note refuses to save it under the same name and uses a new name e.g. “notebook(2)”. So when opening and saving my notebook several times, i have a mass of “notebook(X)” files. Even if i use “Save as …” and enter a name which already exists, the OK-Button in the save dialog is grayed out.

I still did not get your problem clearly. You can open an existing note, tap the pencil icon to enter editing mode, in the bottom, you can find <1/4> (if the note has 4 pages, tap > to the last page, now the > becomes +, tap it to add new pages. then take your notes. The modified notes will be saved in the old note.

If I missed your points, you may list down your steps and let us know what you got at each step.

    HI,
i have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I’d like to use it as an electronic notebook. Writing using the pen is easy and the text recognition is impressive. But i have trouble saving my notes. First i tried Google drive, afterwards dropbox, experiencing the same problem. I can’t save a note under a file name which exists already. Because of that after just writing a few notes i have already several notebooks with the same name and some digits at the end of the file name. But i just like to have one ! I’d llike to open it, write, and save it under the same name.
    How does it work ?
    Thanks for any help.

I did not get your question clearly. If you want to write in one note, you can open it, tap edit, then add pages to write and it will be saved as only one Note.

      Yes, you can.

Open S Note, tap Recent Notes in the top left to switch to All Notes. Now if you tap the menu button, you now have the option to create a folder. You can also move S Notes within the app.

Alternatively, you can also manually create a folder (e.g., with My Files), then manually move the S Note files to that folder. After this, if you open S Note app, in All Notes view, you can find the folder and apps inside it.

In the widget, no, folders will not be shown. But you can always tap the S Note (S button) then tap menu key (3 vertical dots in top left) and choose All to see all folders and S Notes.

    Dear Simon

Ive not updated to the new snote. But do hope you can help me.

I recently moved my notes to my external memory card (its a samsung one) and found that I was not able to open them as they were not recognised by my Note, so I moved them back and still I am not able to open them, still unrecognised format. There were lots of extensive notes produced, which I really wanted. Is there anyway to retrieve them?

The original reason for moving them was because of limited space on my Notes memory.

    Much thanks

SNB should not have issues unless the file is corrupted.

In you s note, if you try to import, select the SNB file, what error message do you get?

You may check whether the s note files are corrupted by 1.copy the SNB file to a pc 2). install 7zip on your pc; 3. Right click the SNB file on the pc, choose extract to the default folder. If 7zip complains anything, very likely, the file is corrupted.
This method also allows you to recover the embedded media files.

          Anyway, try to import first.

Hello i have the samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 and i use snote every day at school and when i first started using it at the start of the year i started taking pictures of important figures and graphs in my textbooks and it kept on asking me if i want the picture to be large, medium, small or normal and i clicked small by mistake. Now whenever i take a picture in my school text books and import it with my notes on snote the picture comes in way to small and looses it quality so it is not legible at all. The picture quality gets even worse when i try to expand images on snote to see them better. What i would like to know is how I can change the imported picture size on snote. Thank you

There are no other tools for the conversion, as I know.

You can export them in Note 2 as image or PDF for your record. If you have media (video, audio..) embeded, you can extract them in a PC. 7Zip can extract the embedded files.

You may also visit local Samsung service center to see whether they can help.

So it appears that S Note in my new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 with Kit Kat severely limits the size of anything you paste. For example: I copied a 10 page document from Polaris 5 and tried to paste it in S Note. It only pasted about a third of the document. I did the same with a Web page. When I pasted it into S Note it only allow about half the Web page. My Note II does not have this limit so I’m wondering if my new 10.1 is defective. What is your understanding of this issue. Seems like I’m not the only one having this problem. Thanks!

I think the limit is due to that textbox cannot span pages. If you reduce the font size, you can see more contents copied. Unfortunately, there is no solution for this yet, as I know.

Depending on the tablet version (original note 10.1 or note 10.1 2014 edition), the s note is saved in sdcard0/S Note or sdcard0/SnoteData.

Anyway, if you open s note app again, you can check the recent notes.

            I think it’s the old note 10.1.

If you cannot see the note in S Note app, very likely, the s note was not saved successfully. You may try to create a new note to see whether you have the same saving problem.

You have no choice because it’s part of the firmware. It seems Samsung didn’t update s note for your model in the kitkat update. It could be due to some compatibility issues.

I am guessing it’s because they changed the file type, but I am hoping there is a way to restore the old data from the old note app?

S Note is a pre-installed app. Titanium Back up cannot restore it.

You can copy the Notes to the new phone directly. You can also sync the notes with Evernote.

Once the Note is opened in Note 3, it will be converted to new format automatically (This will not overwrite your old Notes as the file extension is different).

With S Note how do i prevent the app from turning pages using the swipe gesture.
When I write close to the edges of the screen the page turns.

Is there a way to only turn pages using the buttons at the bottom and turn off the swipe gesture?

    Thank you

I am not aware of any methods to turn off this feature. It actually can create new pages in Note 3 and Note Pro, and Note 10.1 2014 edition.

It seems the Settings–Add page “Always ask” does not work.

I figured out a way to prevent the page from turning when you dont want it to.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Recognition > Interaction Control Turn On. Then press home button and volume button at same time and you then draw which areas you want to block touch interaction. I drew along the border of the screen and now my pages dont go turning when I write on the edge 🙂

I researched about this and found out theres a lot who has the same problem and they sent it to samsung for reflashing and all that factory thing they do and still they have the same problem after some time again and again. Snote firmware is designed to crash out =( consider urselves lucky if urs aint crashing. I just decided to migrate to Papyrus. Anyway samsung wont replace my unit, theyll just “fix it” and will have the same problem again and again =(

Sometimes, the problem can be due to other apps installed. You may try to reset the tablet without installing other third party apps, then try it.

Of course, you should backup your data before reseting.

Did that, i ran snote basically with a clean and i mean no downloaded apps. I just restored my old notes data first then i did restore factory settings like with nothing on my pad like when you first buy it. Same problem. Maybe its a bug on note pro 12.2 models? I dont know but eversince the crash started, i did every single thing i can do, not to mention completely resetting everything. Still this “Snote stopped working” appears again and again when j use Snote. Its really really reeaally disappointing because its a fixed firmware in which galaxy note pro tab etc is known for in terms of features and this happens to it. Thank God for Papyrus and Lecturenotes.

I still think the problem is probably specific to the device. You can ask them to replace one if possible.

S Note is a pre-installed feature/app, the service centre has the responsibility to make sure that it works properly.

did you install any task managers?

anyway, if factory reset doesn’t solve the issue, you may visit local Samsung service centre to check the tablet. It could be a faulty set.

    Hi Simon Good day!
Can Samsung guys Increase the Maximum number of Charaters in text box
on Samsung note 10.1 2024 edition from 5,000 to 8,000 or more.

for one (1) chinese character will consumes almost 3 characters in english (equivalent).
would you know the maximum number of characters on Samsung note 3 text box?

where & how can i Install S note apps (Red) to my KitKat upgraded Samsung note 8.0.

    Thank You so much!

For the text box, I’m not aware of the maximum number of characters. I remember the only limitation is that it cannot cross pages. So, you are limited to one page. You can change the font size (as low as 8) to squeeze more characters.

In Note 3, I think the limitation is still one page. As long as you put the contents in one page, you can use one text box. Normally one Chinese character occupy the space for 2 English letters.

S Note is part of the firmware of your device. You cannot install it manually (although some guys may extract the S Note app from other devices, you should avoid them).

Btw, if one text box is not enough, why don’t you use a second text box? There is no limit (limited by phone memory) of number of text boxes you can use in S Note.

Did you check the version of your S Note (in settings – application manager- all – S Note) ? Red usually refers to 3.x. In different regions, the icon may be different.
S Note is part of the firmware. You cannot use both versions on one device.

Version 5rXXX is for Jelly Bean 4.1/4.2.
1.X is for jelly bean 4.3.

I think if you update them to Kitkat 4.4.2, you should get the latest version of S Note (as in Note 3, or Note Pro).

But anyway, there may be some difference in different regions.

S note app only allows one instance. So you cannot use two s notes as a pair in multi-window.

I think that is the only way to directly copy s note pages from one note to another note. I am not aware of other ways.

If to cannot find yahoo mail in the list when you arranging the multi window apps, it means the app is not compatible with multi window. You may use email app instead.

Probably not, S Note app is integrated in the firmware. Samsung hasn’t released it as a standalone app.

So you can only get S Note update when Samsung rolls out an update for the specific device.

This is one of the major reasons why almost none of the developers is interested in developing something for S Note….

Hope Samsung can wake up soon ………

The new s note app uses new format. The old notes will be converted to the new format when reading into the app.

The conversion will not overwrite the old ones because different file extensions are used. Snb is the old notes. The new one uses spd as file extension.

You can navigate you internal storage to find the old notes.

Most of the time, the conversion is flawless. You can try to load the old notes again.

It’s hard to draw conclusions because most of the time the problems are actually caused by third party apps. So far , there are no known problems for note 10.1 2014 edition with kitkat. Of course, a few common kitkat problems are there.

a lot of us feel that Samsung has made SNOTE worse than before . To cite just 2 examples

        1) SNOTE can no longer be attached to the S Planner (calender app) (This was such a critical and nice feature that i was personally bowled over when I saw it and used it to max productivity)
        2) SNOTE impotng pdf is such a pain in the new version.

Open S Note app, change to All Note view (tap the top left corner, if it shows Recent notes). Then tap the menu key (3 vertical dots ) in top eight, tap import–My Files–PDF file.

You need import the PDF file as a new S Note, then edit it. Once saved as a S Note, you can use copy pages to merge it with other S Notes (you cannot directly import a PDF file as new pages in an existing S Notes)

If your Note 8.0 was updated to KitKat 4.4, yes, you can.

But if you are still in Jelly Bean, you cannot. You have to wait for update for your Note 8.0.

Note 3 can read and convert Notes created in Note 8.0 without issues.

Does my Note 3 have to be on kitkat as well? I want to send my s notes from my jelly bean Note 3 to my Kitkat Note 8. Tried a while back, possibly prior to Note 8 Kitkat update. Discovered Kitkat curtailed a LOT of my apps, have spent several days across weeks reorganizing files on both devices, attempting to gain some consistency.

The S Note app is part of the firmware. If you want to exchange S notes. Both of them should have the kitkat, or both are in jelly bean 4.3, or both are in jelly bean 4.2 or below.

Kitkat on note 3 is quite stable now.

Have finally finished throwing all my files up to Dropbox, did a factory data reset on the Note 8. Am running it stock for the moment (as in no launcher or wallpaper overlay, and just evernote and netflix downloaded). Clean sd card inserted.

Observed that S notes on KitKat note 8 saved with extension of .snb, while the jelly bean Note 3 saves S notes with extension .spd. If I update to KitKat on the Note 3 will it change the file extensions? I kind of doubt it.

Tried sending as an S note from Note 3 to the Note 8 via bluetooth. Sent fine, but error message said no application available to open file.

Sent as a pdf, which gobbled up almost 4 mb of storage! Then opened by default with Polaris. Handwriting rendered well, toolbar for editing available in polaris, cool. Closed without any editing.

Imported pdf (which by the way, was 9 pages of handwritten notes) to a new notebook on Note 8. Opened imported note and only one page had rendered with any handwriting! Not cool.

If the pdf saved fine with the handwriting, why didn’t S Note 8 render it correctly from the imported pdf?

thanks for any ideas you may have.

After you update Note 8 to KitKat, the S Note should now in the same version as that in Note 3. It is a bit strange you still get snb extension in Note 8 with Kitkat.

SNB is the file extension for old version of S note. SPD is new one. So, any system that can create SPD can import snb file. But the reverse is not true. This is something like backward (not forward) compatibility.

The maximum size is fixed. You can only make it smaller. You can tap and hold empty area in the text box, until properties options (and copy, paste) pops out. Tap the properties, you can resize the text box by defining the width and height (you want to uncheck ” keep aspect ratio) under layout tab.

This is because the orientation of the Notes are different. You can only copy pages from landscape to landscape, portrait to portrait.

Hope samsung improves Snote, such a great wonderful tool, wish they could make it flexible, like having portrait and landscape pages selection in the same notebook and complete access of copying pages from all notebooks. Please Samsung, this but a small improvement but Great impact on the usability of Snote! =)

      Hi Simon good day!
      Here i am again,
Yes it is in the Landscape template.
Thanks, have changed it to Portrait.

When i try to Drag the side to Increase the Size Width,
it ALWAYS RETURNS to 8.98 cm when ever the pen is lifted,
and Only Appears at around 40% on left side of the page.

When the small Blue Triangle at the Lower Right Bottom corner in the text box was tap,
A Long White background with Texts pops out,
more than Half the page with both sides of about 1 inch empty black spaces on screen,
How to get a Full screen Texts without empty side black space?

How can the Width and Height be Changed to its maximum value of 21.0 and 37.33 respectively?
      and set it permanently,
so that it would Not return to 8.98 Width and pops out the “KEEP ASPECT RATIO MAXIMUM“

Thank You So Much for Your KIND HELPS, SIMON!

Once you copy the contents to the clipboard, you can always paste into S Note. You just enter text input mode, long tap somewhere inside the line until the clipboard pops out. You can then select items in the clipboard.

This is very likely due to the length of the text. The text box cannot be extended to next page. So if the text is long, you may find the text is truncated. But actually the text is still in the text box. You can long tap the text area (in editing mode) until you see the pop out menu of “properties cut paste and delete”. Tap the properties and change the font to the smallest 8, you will get more text.

Anyway you are limited to one page with minimum font size of 8.

Btw, you can insert clipboard by simply tap the “add” icon in the bottom left, then choose clipboard.

but i can not find the “properties cut paste and delete” at the text area!
            Menu wouldn‘t pop out!

i tried changed the font size from 15 to 8, but not thing change except the displayed first part of the note,
but when i tap on the BLUE TRIANGLE on the lower right corner, the truncated text length is Still the same.

Why can‘t Samsung GIVE BACK the OLD page type of note,
where you can read notes on the whole page of the Screen,
instead of this NEW note apps
that Scrambles the texts (when you are reading a long text)
and DISPLAYS the texts ONLY at 1/3 of the whole Screen page.
What Good does the black portions of the screen for (when reading a text note after topping the blue triangle)?
Why not show it on the whole screen page???

In editing mode, you then go to pen input mode (tap the first button in the top left). Now if you tap and hold the text area, the whole text area will be selected and you get the pop up menu. You can apply styles to the whole text box.

Please make sure you are not in text input mode (the second button in top left). In this mode, you are supposed to work on the text within the text area, so, you can select some text, and copy paste some text. You can apply different styling to some text in this box.

I hope you now understand the difference of these two buttons.

The size is limited by the page size. You cannot change page size.

For any text box, you can tap and hold it (in pen input mode) until the properties box pops out, then drag the handlers in four direction to make it bigger or smaller.

For other objects (e.g., pictures), you can also change the dimension in the similar way.

The new S Note is always in full-screen mode. If you see empty space, very likely, you choose landscape template, but you are working in portrait orientation. If you are using multi-window, you can close the other window to make it full screen.

When you copy text, if it is to a text box, it will be in current cursor location. If you copy other objects, it should be in the last location of the cursor. You can then move it to the desired location.

For the underlines, you can get it in text input mode (the second button T). Tap the button once should give you text settings box, where you can set font, size, bold, underlining, color… The setting will be applied to text entered until you change the settings again.

If you want format existing text (including underlining), you can select text, then choose the text settings.

If you want to apply settings to all text in the text box, you can tap and hold empty area of the text box (it is better to do it in pen input if using fingers) until the properties box pops out. You can then apply settings to all text inside the box. You can also format the paragraphs.

I don’t think S Note has these features. S Note more or less gives you a white paper and some tools to take notes or create a design quickly. It is not intended for a large project of text.

For pages, you can only add index (for indexing) or tags (for searching).

For the Note, you can edit the cover.

You can copy your SNB files (under S Note folder in your internal storage) to the SnoteData folder in your Note 10.1 2014 edition.

Then start S Note, tap recent Notes (top left corner), it should change to All notes. Now you can see the old S Notes. Tap any of them will give you a warning message that the note will be converted to new format. You have no option if you want to open them in Note 10.1 2014 or Note 3.

Please note, the notes created/converted in Note 10.1 2014 edition cannot be opened properly in Galaxy Note 10.1.

by default, in Note 10.1, if you tap the back (soft, bottom left) button, it will save your S Note automatically. If you tap close, itr will ask you whether you want to save.

Your S Note will not be saved only when you are in multi-window mode, AND, you tap the close window button. In this case the app closed and nothing saved. As I know this is the limitation of multi-window.

For SD card, you probably cannot change the default folder to anywhere but /storage/sdcard0/S Note This is actually the internal storage. Probably this is hard-coded in the app. However, if you want to backup, you can always manually make a copy of this folder on SD card in any file browser (e.g., ES File Browser).

It’s almost impossible for S Note because the files are normally cleared when the app exits or crashes. You should manually save the note frequently.

I am new with galaxy note 10.1, trying to use S-Note and have several questions. l. I found that when we add a new page, the audio recording will stop. Is there anyway for the audio recording to continue when we add new pages? 2. Can we change file name after we create it? 3. Can we open another S-Note while we are using s-Note? I have this problem because while I am doing the current notes, I need to make some reference to previous notes. Anyway to solve this problem?
4.Most of the time I am using text recognition. Found that sometime when the system recognise the
words wrongly, I would like to just edit few alphabets but a bit harder to make the cursor go to the correct characters for edit because there are no ‘up down left right’ arrows. Any solution for this? Or no choice and I need to try several time until I probe to the correct character?

      1. the audio recording is associated with one page. So I don’t think you can span one recording to more than one page.
      2. yes, of course. In the S Note list, you can long press it untill a menu pops out. There is one option to rename. Alternatively, you can use any file browser to directly change the file name of the corresponding snb file.
      3. no. apps usually cannot have two instances.
      4. are you using the keyboard’s handwriting recognition, or handwriting to text in productivity tools? For the later, there are the 4 arrow keys. For the keyboard, you can just use the pen to tap to the desired location, the cursor will move there.
