Unique features of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover?

Galaxy Note 10 LED View Cover (aka LED wallet cover in some regions) is one of the “official” accessories of Galaxy Note 1o and Note 10+.  It is a typical two-piece flip cover.

The series of the LED case was first released with Galaxy S7. Samsung refined the features in the last few years.

The unique features of the Galaxy Note 10 LED Wallet cover include:

LED notification icons

Showing LED notification icons on an external case is one of the most significant selling points of the Galaxy Note 10 LED Wallet cover among the over-crowded flip covers.

When someone calls you or some apps get notifications, you will see the corresponding LED icons on the front part of the LED cover.

Samsung allows you to customize the icons for any individual contact (or contact group) and different apps so that you can immediately know whether the call/message/notification is important or not by looking at the icon without opening the cover.

Interact with the phone without opening the cover

Another unique feature of the LED wallet cover is that you can interact with the phone from the cover (without opening it).

For phone calls, you can accept or reject a call by swiping to the left or right on the LED cover.

You can also snooze or dismiss alarms similarly.

If you are playing music in the background, you can also control it on the cover without opening the cover (read on).

Card slot inside the cover

There is a card slot inside the front part of the Galaxy Note 10 LED View Cover. For this reason, the cover is often referred to as a wallet cover.

You can put one card or a few notes in the slot.

How to use Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover?

1. Put on and take off the LED wallet cover

Like Galaxy Note 10 clear view cover, the top part of the Galaxy Note 10 LED View Cover is not fully covered. So, it is quite easy to put on or take off the cover, compared to that on Galaxy S10 or Note 9.

When you put on the cover, you need to put the top part first, then snap the phone into the bottom part.

If you want to remove the cover, you should start from the bottom part.

2. Assign LED icons for contacts and apps

You can assign an LED icon to a contact, several contacts, or a group so that you can know who is calling you.

For each app, you can also assign an LED icon for notifications, and therefore, you can know which app is bugging you without opening the cover.

On Galaxy Note 10 Settings page, as shown in the screenshot below, tap Advanced features.

Assign and manage LED icons: settings Assign and manage LED icons: advanced features

In the Advanced features page, as shown above, tap Accessories.

In the Accessories page, as shown below, you can find the LED Icon Editor and About LED View Cover.

If you cannot find these two entries in the Accessories page, it simply means the case/cover is not detected by the phone. You can try to remove it and then reapply it.

Please note, if you have used any fast wireless charger to charge Galaxy Note 10, you should also see the entry for fast wireless charging.

Now, tap the LED icon editor, as shown below, to assign and manage icons, or create new icons.

Galaxy Note 10 LED cover under advanced fatures LED icons

In the LED icons page, as shown above, you can:

  • Assign an LED icon to one or more contacts or a group.
  • Assign an LED icon to any apps.
  • Manage LED icons for contacts and apps.
  • Create your own LED icons (the + icon).

Please note, you can also access this page faster by tapping the LED Icon Editor in the Apps screen.

The LED Icon Editor App will be added automatically to the apps screen once the Galaxy Note 10 LED Wallet cover is detected.

The available LED icons are grouped into two groups, as shown above:

  • Preloaded. By default, there are 49 preloaded LED icons.
  • Custom. All LED icons created by you will be shown here.

Both groups of LED icons can be used equally. The major difference between these two groups of LED icons is that you can only modify or delete the LED icons in the custom group (these icons are created by you).

If you want to assign an LED icon (for example, the Smiley icon)  to your friend so that you can quickly identify the caller.

Tap the Smiley icon, as shown above.  The number below each icon indicates how many contacts and apps were assigned to this LED icon. 0 means it is not used by any contacts or apps.

In the Smiley icon page, as shown below, by default, you are in the Calls tab. If you want to assign the LED icon to an app for app notifications, you need to switch to the Notifications tab.

Assign LED icon to a contact select contacts

As shown above, you can then select one or more contacts from your address book for this icon.

If you want to assign this LED icon to an app, you can choose the app from the list of apps installed on the phone, as shown below.

For example, you want to use this LED icon for notifications from the Amazon shopping app.

You just need to select the app and confirm. Of course, you can assign this LED icon to more than one apps.

Once you finish to assign the Smiley icon to any contacts and/or any apps, you will see the icon on the Galaxy Note 10 LED cover when the person calls you, or the app sends you a notification.

Assign a LED icon to an app manage LED icons for apps and contacts

3. Manage LED icons for contacts and apps

You can always change your mind by assigning a new LED icon or delete the LED icon for that contact or app.

Again, we use the Smiley icon as an example.

As shown above, in the Smiley icon page, tap the Menu key (3 vertical dots on the top right).

If you are in the Notifications tab, you will see the option of Manage apps, as shown below.

Of course, if you are in the Calls tab, you will get the option to manage contacts for this LED icon.

manage apps associated with a LED icon change LED icon for an app

As shown above, after selecting the currently assigned app (Amazon shopping in this example), you have two options:

  • Set icon. You can choose other LED icons to replace the current one (Smiley) for Amazon Shopping.
  • Delete. You will delete the association between this LED icon and the Amazon  Shopping app, NOT delete the icon or delete the app.

You can manage the LED icon for contacts similarly.

4. Create own LED icons

You can create your own LED icons by tapping the + button in the LED icon page, which can be accessed through one of the two methods:

  • Open the LED icon editor app (which appears automatically once Galaxy Note 1o recognizes the LED wallet cover.
  • From Settings —Advanced features —Accessories—LED Icon Editor, as shown earlier.

You may follow this page to create your own LED icons.

5. Control music playing on Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover

You can control the music playing without opening the LED cover.

When the LED cover is closed, and music is playing, you can press the Side key (Power key, see Galaxy Note 10 layout) once to get the playing control buttons, as shown below.

From left to write, the three buttons are Back to the Previous, Pause/Play, and Jumping to the Next.

Review of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover

The Galaxy Note 10 LED Wallet cover is a decent case for your Galaxy Note 10 or Note 10+.  Of course, it is far far better than the transparent back cover in Galaxy Note 10 box.

But surely, it is not for everyone.

Pros of the LED View cover

  • High-quality material.
  • Perfect fit/cutout.
  • Dirty-resistant.
  • Moderate protection for both the front(screen) and the back.
  • LED notification icons.
  • Interaction with the phone without opening the cover.
  • Card slot.

Cons of the LED View cover

  • Overpriced.
  • No fixture for the front part after you close the case. So, when in the pocket, the case may open and close inadvertently.
  • A bit bulky.
  • LED icon for contacts only works for calls, not text messages. All text messages use an identical LED notification icon.

Solutions for some problems of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover

Q1: Galaxy Note 10 does not recognize the cover.

A1: The LED case should be recognized by the phone automatically. You do NOT need to install additional software/apps.

If Galaxy Note 10 does not recognize the case (i.e., there is no LED icon editor entry in Settings –Advanced features — Accessories ), you may try to remove the case, then put it on again. You may also try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

Of course, if the phone still is unable to recognize the LED view case, you may check with the seller. Very likely, it is a faulty one.

Q2: Do I need to turn on NFC to use Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover?

A2: No, it is not necessary to manually turn on NFC.

NFC will be used automatically for the LED View case even you turn off NFC on Galaxy Note 10/10+.

Q3: Does the LED View case drain my phone battery?

A3: Although the Galaxy Note 10 LED Wallet case uses the phone battery, the battery consumption is very marginal.

You will not notice the difference in battery life with or without the LED case.

Q4: The LED case does not show notifications. Why?

A4: Very likely, the notification access permission is not granted for the LED Icon Editor.

You may go to Settings —Apps.

In the Apps page (Application manager), tap the menu key, as shown below.

Solutions for some problems of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover Solutions for some problems of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover

From the menu, tap Special access, as shown above.

Now, in the Special access page, as shown below, tap Notification access.

Solutions for some problems of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover Solutions for some problems of Galaxy Note 10 LED View cover

As shown above, you need to make sure both LED cover and the LED Icon Editor have the notification access permission.

I upgraded from the Galaxy Note 8 to the S20. The LED view cover on my Note 8 would show numbers for incoming calls to my Google Voice number. On the S20, the cover does not show anything for incoming calls to my Google Voice number. All setting are identical. Is there any reason why this would be?

The LED view cover normally shows icons for calls. What did you get if someone calls you the number associated with the SIM card?

Having recently bought the Note 10 plus i also bought an LED view cover from Amazon… put it on the phone and it worked fine showing me the time on the cover as it should when closing the wallet. 30 mins later the phone suggests the led icon editor app needs to update to the latest version so i accept and download. After the new download the cover now shows a random array of LED’s lit up instead of the time. I complained to Amazon and they sent me a new case. Worked fine, did the same update and back to square one. For all i know its showing a Korean time font… but i find it totally unacceptable that for a company like Samsung to allow this kind of thing to happen when people pay the money they charge for their phones and accessories.
Anyone know what the problem is please and how to fix it?

Not sure about the issue. You may try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps. Also, you may check notifications in the notification panel to see whether there are some related notifications.

Lastly, you may open the LED icon editor app and go through it once to grant necessay permissions.

The problem is related to Spotify and Pandora app. These apps do not register the service as standard music playing services.

The music control on the LED view cover should work with normal “media players” like VLC as well.

It also works with Amazon Music, Google Play Music and Youtube Music….

    Great guide!

I have this case and it helped me figure a coulple of things out. I didn’t know the music buttons worked for Spotify too, for instance!

On the other hand I’m having an issue with the default icons assigned to contacts. So far I’ve assigned 3 different default icons to 3 of my contacts, but it seems to be working for one of them only. Does anyone know why?

    Thanks!

It should work for all contacts. Do you see the number under the icon in the icon list page? For the other two contacts, what icon will show up?

They do. When I go to each icon, the contact that I assigned is listed there, it just doesn’t show up when I get a call from one of the non-working contacts; I get the regular phone call animation (the one with the phone icon and then the incoming caller’s number).

I’m not sure if its changes anything, but so far this is what I have edited and is working:

        -Wave icon – Whatsapp notification
        -Sun icon – Contact 1

        What is NOT working is:

        -Dog icon – Contact 2
        -Turtle icon – Contact 3

Like I said before, these two contacts just show up as a regular incoming call.

For contact 2 or 3, in the call history (in Phone app), are their names (or only numbers) listed?

Please note, contacts saved in the SIM card sometimes may not work with the LED cover. You should save the contacts on the phone, or in Google account, or in Samsung account. These contacts should work.

You can add these two contacts to favourite list ( tap the orange star in details page for the contact). Then, reboot the phone.

OK, so nothing on here worked, but I did find the solution.

I had saved Contacts 2 and 3 with the international cell phone prefix (+521), Contact 1 was saved with the normal international prefix (+52) – notice the 1 at the end, that’s the difference. I edited both Contact 2 and Contact 3 to match Contact 1 i.e. changing the international prefix to (+52) and it did the trick. Crazy.

Thank you Simon for your help!

Hi, can you please tell me how long does the notification stay lit? Does it reappear after a while if not read?

It should reappear until the notification is dismissed/cleared.

Please note, you can clear all notifications without reading them.

Anyway, if the notification is still in the notification panel, the LED icon on the LED cover may light up again and again.

    Hello,
    1) is it possible to disable Auto-locking of screen when LED view cover closed?
    2) can custom icons be animated?
    Thank you

1). Yes, you can disable auto lock when the case is closed. You need to disable lock instantly with side key in Settings – lock screen – secure lock settings – lock instantly with Side key. You need to disable it because the LED cover follows this option when you close the case. After you disable this, auto lock will follow your timeout settings when the case is closed.
2). No, Samsung doesn’t allow you to define animations for all LED icons including those created by you.
