In this post, I will summarize the top 10 new features of Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+, which are quite impressive and exciting. They include Samsung DeX for PC, updated video editor, native screen recorder, the new S Pen, 25w/45W Superfast charging, 3D scanner (Galaxy Note 10+ only, not released yet), wireless Powershare, AR doodle, zoom-in mic, and the night camera mode.

In this guide, Galaxy Note 10 refers to both Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ unless the special features are on Galaxy Note 10+ only. If this is the case, we will use Note 10+ explicitly. The differences between Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ are discussed in this post.
Samsung DeX, which was introduced in Galaxy S8 and later available on Galaxy Note 8, Note 9, S9, S10, and now Note 10, is probably the most useful innovation bringing Android to a bigger screen. It transforms your phone into an Android desktop when connected to a large screen.
For Galaxy S8 and Note 8, you need to use the DeX station to connect the phone to the external monitor. The slimmer DeX Pad was introduced with the Galaxy S9 and can be used on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 as well. Galaxy Note 9 introduced the DeX cable, and you only need a USB-C to HDMI cable to use DeX with Note 9. This feature was ported to Galaxy S9 after the Android Pie update. Currently, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S10 can use any of them (DeX cable, Dex Station, or DeX Pad) to switch to the DeX mode. Galaxy S8 still needs a DeX Station or a DeX Pad to launch Samsung Dex mode.
Now, Galaxy Note 10 (and Note 10+) has extended Samsung DeX to your desktop directly. You just need a USB cable to use Galaxy Note 10 on the PC (or notebook) screen. Samsung DeX for PC will be launched as a normal app on Windows 10 or Mac. Of course, you need to install the Samsung DeX app on the PC. This is tremendously useful because:
So, in my opinion, Samsung DeX for PC is the No.1 of the top 1o new features of Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+.

There are many video editing apps in the market. But most decent ones are not free. At least you need to pay to unlock some features you may want to use.
On Galaxy devices, Samsung usually ships a simple video editor inside the Gallery app. It allows you to trim or rotate the video. Some advanced features like adding effects and music were added in recent Galaxy Note and Galaxy S devices.
Now, Galaxy Note10 has finally added an updated built-in video editor. It allows you to combine video clips, reset video resolution, adjust playback speed, add transition effects and music, and layer text. The S Pen can offer some precisive controls.
Although the video editor is not a “professional” tool, as claimed by some marketing materials, it is definitely worth a try. And it is probably sufficient for most Galaxy Note 10 users.
Another welcomed feature of Galaxy Note 10 is the native screen recorder. Many game players, vloggers, and streamers will surely love this feature.
You can also use the screen recorder to show others how to do something, for example, how to use the screen recorder.
The screen recorder button is conveniently located in the quick settings. You can customize the recording and use the S Pen to add live notes to the video.
The front camera-powered picture-in-picture function is also supported. You can use the PIP to add reactions or another view to the recording.
Like the S Pen in Galaxy Note 9, the new S Pen is also Bluetooth-enabled.
This year, Samsung wants to turn the S Pen into a magic wand by adding some fancy (some are funky) features to the S Pen.
By adding the 6-axis (gyroscope
and accelerometer) sensor to the S Pen, the motion of the S Pen can be detected, and therefore, the magic begins. For example, the S Pen now also supports gestures with S Pen Air actions so that you can take pictures, zoom in and out, and switch camera perspective with a simple gesture, as well as change content and volume in multimedia apps with S Pen gestures.Besides the gesture gimmicks, the Galaxy Note 10’s S Pen can work 10 hours on a single charge. It now has a 350uAh lithium-titanate battery instead of the supercapacitors in Galaxy Note 9’s S Pen.

This guide shows you how to install the S Note app on Galaxy Note 10 so that you can get more practical value from the magic wand.
The superfast charging allows you to charge Galaxy Note 10+ up to 45W. But this is for the Galaxy Note 10+ only; Galaxy Note 10 only supports fast charging up to 25W.
The bad news is that in the Galaxy Note 10 box, the bundled wall charger is only 25W. If you have a Galaxy Note 10+ and want to try the 45W superfast charging, you need to buy a 45W charger.
Please note the Super Fast charging on Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ requires USB-C PD 3.0 and PPS ( Programmable Power Supply). Because PPS is optional for PD 3.0 standard, most wall chargers in the market do not support it. Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ will NOT benefit from these chargers. FYI, both Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ support Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, as introduced in S10.
As revealed in this post, the 45W charger only cut the charging time by about 10mins for Galaxy Note 10+, compared to the 25W bundled wall charger.
The Galaxy Note10+’s DepthVision camera lets you capture content with its built-in 3D Scanner.
However, the 3D scanner feature is not available currently. It will be activated through a future software update. You can download the 3D scanner app from Galaxy Apps now.
So, no comments at this time.
The wireless Powershare is the reverse of wireless charging. You use Galaxy Note 1o’s battery to charge other devices wirelessly.
Although you can charge any other devices with Qi wireless charging support, wireless PowerShare is useful for charging some accessories, for example, Galaxy earbuds or Galaxy Watch. The charging speed is quite slow (less than 5W).

AR Doodle in Galaxy Note 10 allows you to use the S Pen to create AR (augmented reality) drawings, effects, and animations. The added layer can track users’ faces (face mode) and the surroundings (everywhere mode).
AR Doodles can be layered to both stationary and moving subjects.
On the top of Galaxy Note 10, you can find the new dedicated zoom-in mic.
Galaxy Note 10 can use AI (artificial intelligence) to amplify (zoom in) the sound of the subject (e.g., music) and minimize the background noise when you record a video or audio.
Please note, as explained in this post, that the location of the zoom-in mic is next to the rear camera. The big hole in the top of Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ is a speaker, not the zoom-in mic.

Samsung removed the night camera mode since the Android Nougat update and incorporated it into Auto (or Photo) mode.
But it seems the Auto mode is not as intelligent as Samsung expected.
So, Samsung gradually brought back the night mode through a software update.
Now, on Galaxy Note 10, the night mode is pre-installed along with other camera modes.
