How to disable flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5?

Flipboard briefing, a feature in Samsung TouchWiz,  is one dedicated page/panel (the leftmost) showing you latest articles in various categories based on your interest and configurations.

Like in Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5 also includes the annoying flipboard briefing panel in Galaxy Note 5 home screen, although most users don’t like it.

The bad news is that you cannot remove the flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5 totally. But you can disable it easily. This guide shows you how to disable flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5.

To disable flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5 home screen, please follow these steps.

Step 1: Enter Galaxy Note 5 home screen edit mode

You can enter Galaxy Note 5 home screen edit mode by one of the following methods:

  1. tap and hold any blank area in Galaxy Note 5 home screen as shown below.
  2. or, pinch your fingers in Galaxy Note 5 home screen.

You can do this in any home screen panels, not necessarily in the home panel.

Please check this page if you want to learn more about about the Galaxy Note 5 touch screen gestures.

Step 2: Switch to the leftmost panel

Flipboard briefing is in the leftmost panel of Galaxy Note 5 home screen. So, after entering the edit mode, you need switch to the leftmost panel.

You can switch to the leftmost panel by:

  • swiping from left to right on the home screen until you reach the leftmost panel.
  • or, tap the screen indicators (as shown in this page) for the leftmost panel until you reach the leftmost panel.

Please note, tapping the corresponding screen indicator does NOT switch to the corresponding panel immediately in Galaxy Note 5. It only move one panel after tapping once. This is a bit annoying.

Step 3: Uncheck the option to disable flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5

Once you are in the leftmost panel, you can see the the preview of flipboard briefing as shown below.

On top of the preview as shown below, you can uncheck it to disable flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5.

Step 4: Return to home screen

Tap back button or home button to return to return to normal home screen mode.

How to enable/turn on flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5?

If you want to use Galaxy Note 5 flipboard briefing, you can turn it on at any time by following the similar steps mentioned above.  You just check the option, instead of unchecking it, to turn on flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5.

I still cannot cycle through the leftmost panels after turning off flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5, why?

Flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5 is not the cause of the problem.

Galaxy Note 5 does not allow you to cycle through the leftmost and rightmost home screen panels regardless of disabling/enabling flipboard briefing on Galaxy Note 5. This is different from Galaxy Note 4.

This is one of the most annoying new features in the new TocuhWiz.  There are no solutions yet. You have to swipe back once you hit the wall in the leftmost and rightmost panel.

Of course, you may try some third-party launchers which may support cycling through the home screen panels.

  • Still can't get rid of the brief article that shows on lock screen. Cant stand it. It's usually either a made up Trump derangement syndrome panic article or squewed leftist FAKE news. Total bull shit. If this is locked into galaxy's ok system I won't buy another one.

  • So I got part way through this - to the last screen shot above with Briefing in an inset box with the color squares (what are those for?) above and below. But above that is a trashcan, not the box your screen shot shows. I tried pressing that garbage can, but nothing happens. I'd attach a screen shot, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.

  • This is incorrect information. Everyone knows how to shut it off because there's a slide switch that says on and off. The problem is that after you turn it off it keeps turning itself back on again. Maybe two days later, or ten days, or who knows what the schedule but it keeps turning back on. Once I set it to OFF it should stay that way. PERIOD.

    • You can disable the Briefing app in application manager. You can find the app by switching to show system apps.

      • Apparently you didn't understand what I wrote. I never said I don't know how to turn it off. I already turned it off on the homescreen. I already disabled it in application settings. I know how to turn it off. The problem is that IT KEEPS TURNING BACK ON. And from what I have read I am not the only one having the problem.

  • Somehow flip board had completely disappeared off my phone. I looked under all my app settings. It was annoying because every time I swiped too far left it would ask my location permission and I always would deny, and would go back to my home page and these two icons from previous apps I had downloaded and then later Uninstalled kept popping up for about a second or two and then disappear. The 2 apps are completely erased in all my settings and Google acct. Now all of a sudden flip board is gone off my phone. What the heck?

    • I removed the extra sheet to the left but I still get the annoying notifications. How do yiu turn those off? Ive look in settings notifications abd it does not show there. This it gonna force me to ditch samsung....

      • You can disable the app named Briefing in settings - applications - application manager. Tap the menu key (3 vertical dots in top right), tap show system apps, you can then find the app in the list. Disable it( you cannot uninstall it because it's pre-installed as a system app.

  • Add extra blank pages to the right of flipboard and you can then go back and forth like the note 4....you can even still use the original flipboard because it isnt in the wa anymore

  • Note 5 Android Marshmallow briefing page has On/Off slider, not a checkbox. I set it to Off but still get occasional briefings. How do I kill it till it's dead?

  • I placed a widget on the flip board page and now cannot move the widget to another page or create it again. How can I fix that? I can disable flip board but it also makes that page and therefore that widget inaccessible.

    • You can add many instances (copies) of any apps and widgets. It should not be affected by the Flipboard briefing. What do you get when you try to add the widget?

  • I have disabled flipboard but I still get daily notifications How do I get rid of the flipboard notifications?

    • Enjoy the phone. Flipboard briefing should be offered as a normal app as many owners don't use it.

  • I have a Galaxy A5 and \i cannot find any instruction to disable Flipboard. When I follow your instruction for Note 5 (the nearest model to mine) I cannot display a check box to disable the app, only the general discard bin icon above it, which is inactivated. Can you help?

    • On the Samsung Galaxy A5, execute step 1 from instructions above and then:
      2) At the bottom of the screen, tap on Home screen settings,
      3) Uncheck Fliboard Briefing.

      • This is the only way that works on my phone.

Using Application Manager to Disable or Force Stop has absolutely no effect - setting will be ignored.

  • Thank you sooooooooooo much! You are awesome! My suffering is over! I can breathe again without having to worry about encountering that awful annoying thing ever again! Life is great! Thanks again!
