Use Galaxy Note 7 screen grid to customize app icon size

What is Galaxy Note 7 screen grid?

As you may notice, all app icons (and app folders)  in Galaxy Note 7 home screen are aligned vertically and horizontally as rows and columns. You are not allowed to place an app icon or app folder in arbitrary locations.

This is result of Galaxy Note 7 screen grid.  You can only put app icons or app folders into the grid.

Of course, size of app icon will be adjusted accordingly based on screen grid settings in Galaxy Note 7.

Screen grid in Galaxy Note 7 helps you align app icons and app folders in both home screen and apps screen.  Therefore, different customization still give a consistent look of Galaxy Note 7 home screen and apps screen.

Screen grid was introduced to help big screen phone users to adjust the app icon size. It is part of the default TouchWiz launcher in Galaxy Note 7.

If you are using third-party launchers, the feature may be not available or is offered in different ways. This guide is based on default Galaxy Note 7 launcher.

How to use Galaxy Note 7 screen grid to customize app icon size?

Galaxy Note 7 screen grid settings are included in home screen options.

So, to adjust screen grid to customize app icon size in Galaxy Note 7, you need to enter edit mode of Galaxy Note 7 home screen

(aka Galaxy Note 7 home screen options).

You can enter edit mode of Galaxy Note 7 home screen in one of the following two methods:

Once in edit mode as shown below, you can find 3 Galaxy Note 7 home screen options:

  • Wallpapers and themes.
  • Widgets.
  • Screen grid.

Tap Screen grid as shown below.

In the Galaxy Note 7 screen grid page, current screen grid settings is listed, for example it is 5*5 in the screenshot. This means that in each home screen panel,  app icons are arranged in 5 rows and columns.

Please note, this 5*5 screen grid setting is treated differently in Galaxy Note 7 home screen and apps screen.

In Galaxy Note 7 home screen, 25 spots for app icons do NOT include those in favorite tray. But the number of app icons in favorite tray is limited by the number of columns in Galaxy Note 7 screen grid settings.

In Galaxy Note 7 apps screen, there are only 2 settings (5*5 or 4*5). There are no 4*4 options for Galaxy Note 7 apps screen.

For example, as shown below, when you change Galaxy Note 7 screen grid setting to 4*5 or 4*4, the apps screen has an identical setting of 4*5.

When you change the settings, the preview of current home screen panel will be updated instantly.

But this is for preview only.

If you want to keep the settings, you must tap Apply as shown above. Otherwise, the settings will nor be changed.

Please also note, widgets are also affected by Galaxy Note 7 screen grid settings because the size of widget uses the same reference.

When you change screen grid from 4*5 to 5*5,  all widgets with full width will fill only 80% of the width.
