Use the charger to charge the battery before using it for the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the device by connecting them via the USB cable.

  • Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables. Unapproved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device.
  • When the battery power is low, the device emits a warning tone and displays a low battery power message.
  • If the battery is completely discharged, the device cannot be turned on immediately when the charger is connected. Allow a depleted battery to charge for a few minutes before turning on the device.
  • If you use multiple applications at once, network applications, or applications that need a connection to another device, the battery will drain quickly. To avoid disconnecting from the network or losing power during a data transfer, always use these applications after fully charging the battery.

Charging with the charger

Connect the USB cable to the USB power adapter and then plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack.

When using a USB 2.0 cable, plug the USB cable into the right side of the multipurpose jack as shown in the image below.

Connecting the charger improperly may cause serious damage to the device. Any damage caused by misuse is not covered by the warranty.

  • The device can be used while it is charging, but it may take longer to fully charge the battery.
  • If the device receives an unstable power supply while charging, the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the device.
  • While charging, the device may heat up. This is normal and should not affect the device’s lifespan or performance. If the battery gets hotter than usual, the charger may stop charging.
  • If the device is not charging properly, take the device and the charger to a Samsung Service Centre.

After fully charging, disconnect the device from the charger. First unplug the charger from the device, and then unplug it from the electric socket.

  • Do not remove the battery before removing the charger. This may damage the device.
  • To save energy, unplug the charger when not in use. The charger does not have a power switch, so you must unplug the charger from the electric socket when not in use to avoid wasting power. The charger should remain close to the electric socket and easily accessible while charging.

Checking the battery charge status

When you charge the battery while the device is off, the following icons will show the current battery charge status:

Reducing the battery consumption

Galaxy Note 3  provides options that help you save battery power. By customizing these options and deactivating features in the background, you can use the device longer between charges:

  1. When you are not using the device, switch to sleep mode by pressing the Power button.
  2. Close unnecessary applications with the task manager.
  3. Deactivate the Bluetooth feature.
  4. Deactivate the Wi-Fi feature.
  5. Deactivate auto-syncing of applications.
  6. Decrease the backlight time.
  7. Decrease the brightness of the display.

  • Tried factory/data reset
Wiped cache and also tried different chargers but still the same problem

  • Hi

my galaxy note N7000 takes a long time to fully charge and is heating near the camera area..
also discharging drastically after being charged..any help?

  • Hi

I have a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 tablet and the battery indicator is not working properly. It will take a full charge and drain at a consistent level but it will stay at 1% for a very long time. I have tried numerous things and with occasional use it will work for a day or two at 1% or stream a movie for 3+ hours at the 1%.

I have tried numerous times to 'reset' the battery calibration by fully draining it and charging it to 100%, turning it on and leaving it for 30 minutes then charging to 100% again and still no luck. Any advice on how to resolve this, it is extremely annoying since the screen dims out at 5% and it basically useless at that point

    Thanks

    • Vendors don't offer any options for battery level estimation. If the battery is old, it's hard to estimate the level. You can try to backup the tablet, then try a factory data reset.

    • Did you try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

The messages can be due to dirty or failing USB connector. Sometimes, it can also be triggered by main board problems. You should visit local Samsung service center to check the hardware.

    • If you power off the phone, it should not on automatically. When you charge a powered-off phone, the phone charging status is on. You can check the charging status and battery level. But the phone should not be powered on.

Are you taking about something else?

  • i bought it from someone. its not new. i dont know either the charger is original or not and original accessories are not available in my town. the charger gives different outputs with different cables. with the best avaipable cable it giver 1200 mA which i think should be 2000 mA

    • All the info are printed on the charger. The original Galaxy Note 5 charger should be clearly marked as adaptive fast charging with a lightning icon. The output current is also printed on the charger.

The original charger has two output. One is 5v 2A. Another is about 9v 1.67A.

  • simon i have note 3
plz tell me how much charging current is good for note 3
there are many apps like 'galaxy charging' that tells charging current. my chargr gives 1.2 Ampere. while on charger, output current 2 ampere is written.

    • 2A is the maximum current. The actual current the battery can take depends on many factors: the age of the battery cell, the percentage of battery level, and the temperature....

So, the actual current is NOT a constant. The system has some algorithms to control and optimize the charging.

For Galaxy Note 3, with the official charger, it should take 2-3 hours to fully charge it.

  • my note3 phone shows everytime 100% battery level. when it normal use drain the charge and phone goes to switchoff without charge meanwhile battery shows 100% charge. what is the problem

Chargr is orignal i thnk which is in box

    • For the charging time, it should take less than 2.5 hours with the original charger. Did you check whether the cable is inserted tightly in both ends? You also try a new cable. Don't use cables from headphone shops: get one from computer shop.

For battery drain, you need monitor it longer time, and check the battery usage details in Settings--battery. You need find out which app are draining the battery.

  • Simon my Note 3 device is not showing LTE network option while i have SM-9005 4g model how to overcome this problem?

  • Hey simon how much hours fully charged note 3 can be used easily?
Also my note 3 shows device status custom how can i solve this problem…and smart remote does not work on orient tvs and can this remote control air conditioner as well.?

    • With the bundled charger, it should take about 2-2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. How long you can use depends on your usage and your network signal. Normally, most users can get about 4 hours of screen time.

If it is not official, in some regions, your warranty will be voided. You need check with local Samsung service center. Usually custom stats means you flashed the non-official rom, or you rooted the phone.

For the smart remote, if it does not, then probably the model is not supported. No, it does not support air conditioner.

    • Just use camera to scan bar code. You need download bar code scanner app. There are many free ones.

  • hello..I have a note 3 neo phone that I bought some 8 months back..there was a issue in the motherboard so I had to get it changed...recently since the past 1 week..my phone has started heating up while charging and gets switched off in between, I have to take out the battery and switch on the phone again to make it work and sometimes the phone restarts itself on its own while charging. I dont know what is happening..I am using the charger that I got with this phone.

    • Is this happened only when charging? If you use the phone heavily and continuously, does the phone restart?

  • My phone battery got drained completely overnight. This morning I have been trying to charge the phone but in vain. I tried different ports, tried charging with a portable charger, & also on my laptop, but still in vain. Even removed the battery & replaced back. Please suggest me a solution.

    • Does the LED light after connecting the phone to the charger for a few mins? If not, you may have to visit local Samsung service center to check the connector and the board.

  • Pls I HV two questions, first whiles using my note 3 whiles the battery % is around 20% y phone goes off and secondly I don't know my actual memory status because when I check storage there is 2 GB and when I go to file manager there is 16Gb but and I HV not inserted an SD card but it shows SD at storage system..... Pls help me out.

    • For the battery issue, if it happens often, probably the battery is too old.

For the storage, it should show total storage, used and available as well. It should be 16gb or 32gb.

  • My galaxy usually takes about 2 hrs to complete a full charge but now it takes about more than 6 hrs to comple even when my phone is not using . what is the reason ?

    • Are you using the original charger and cable? Make sure the cable are inserted tightly in both ends.

      • Yes i am using original charger and cable this problem arised before 2 weeks before that no problem was there it only take about 2 hrs to complete a full charge

        • You may try other cable/charger. Also loose connection may also prolong the charging process.

    • Laptop is not good for charging the phone unless it's a usb 3.0 port. Some latest laptops may also have a charging port. Try to use these ports of available. When charging, you should wait till it's fully charged.

If you have no other choices, you can still use laptop to charge the phone. But do not do it too often.

  • ok ok last thing query
will it effect my battery if i keep my fone note on charge after it reminds me? and what is i put it afterwards and keep it using for a while?

    • It's not good. But it should not cause damages to the battery. If it's convenient, you should disconnect the charger. Don't worry too much about it.

But you should NOT use the phone too often when it's on the charger. This may shorten battery life.

  • I actually have a question not about note 3 but bt note 4 i hope it wont make any differnce because my question is about battery charging

i bought my note 4 day before yesterday but i did'nt put it on charge on first time but instead i used it whole night until it battery was drained to 25% and next day morning i put it on charge to upto 94%

does that have effected my phone or may it have caused my phone's battery damage?

  • hi my note 3 neo is getting switched off while charging... and then i have to remove the battery and re insert to get it ban]ck on... kindly suggest why is it happening..? and also provide me best solution for this....

    • Does it often happen? It could be caused the USB connector. Are you using the original USB cable?

  • Hi simon my question is after i updated my note 3 to lollipop version my bttry is easily to get drained..or it drained easily..is it nrmal?

  • To all those having issues charging their NOTE3 with the USB 3.0 cable that came with the phone. Use a USB 2.0 cable and your problems will go away. You may also want to try a third party USB 3.0 cable. It appears the Samsung supplied USB3.0 cable has some issues with the mating pins. There is nothing wrong with the phone port, it's the cable that's the issue. Hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know how often you are aloud to charge your galaxy note 3 because I've had mine since the end of January this year and in the last week or so I've charged it 5-6 days in a row but don't know how often it's meant to be charged

    • You can charge it whenever you need. It's your phone.

But the battery has certain life span. Charging it too often may have adverse effects on the life span of the battery.

If you charge it daily, the battery should last about 1.5-2 years.

When charging, you should wait till it's fully charged. Once it's charged, unplug the USB cable. Also, try not to use the phone heavily when the phone is on the charger.

  • Hi simon..my question is i chrge my phone when its 30% and i alwys off the note 3 while chrgng but when its fully chrged the battery level it appears 99% when actually it shows 100%..are u fmaliar with this problem? is it my bttry prbz? Plz.hlp.tnx in advnce..

    • It's normal. I don't think this is a problem. First when you start the phone, it will consume battery. Second, the battery level indicator is an estimation. Error is inevitable.

BTW, it's not necessary to power off the phone when charging. A smartphone should not reboot so often.

      • Okie tnx.simon..:) so u mean its okie to chrge the note 3 open? Cz i more into off if i chrge my phne. Nd is it okie if it reach 30% do i need to chrge ot in tht lvel? Whts ur advice on this..30% is the proper lvl b4 u chrge ur note 3? Tnx.

        • Smartphone is designed to be always on. You need power it off when you are not going to use it for long time.

It's not necessary to power off the phone for charging. To save power, you can set shorter screen timeout.

Normally, you charge your phone after the battery level is less than 15%. But it also depends when you can access the charger again.

One important thing for charging battery is to unplug only when it's fully charged if possible.

Do not use the phone for heavy apps when charging.

Unplug the phone once the battery is fully charged.

    • I would say it is not a good practice to play games when charging. But a lot of people do it. As I know, it is not good for the battery if you often use the phone in this way.

        • Games are just like apps. I don't think games can harm the phone.

Of course, because the phone battery always have a life span of a few hundreds charging cycles or 2 to 4 years. If the phone is not used heavily, the battery can serve you 2-3 years. If you use it heavily, you may have to replace the battery after 1-1.5 years. Games usually consumed a lot of battery.

But this should not be a problem, because note comes with a removable battery. You can get an replacement battery easily. It's not so expensive.

  • I bought my Note 3 neo 3 months back, but now while charging the phone gets restarted. I use original note 3 charger which i got with phone

    • Did you check the charger and the cable?

You can always visit local Samsung service centre to check the battery. I think normally they will charge you only when you need replace the battery or repair the connector.

  • Two questions: First, when I'm at the office, the first thing that I do when I get in is to put the Galaxy Note 3 on the charger (direct to the wall). I leave it there virtually the entire day. Is that ok?

Also, I will listen to the radio via the Galaxy Note 3 while it is charging. Is that a problem?

    • Keeping the phone the charger is not a good habit. You should disconnect it once it is fully charged. You should connect the phone to the charger when you need charge the phone.

I think it is ok to listen to radio when charging. Try not to do "heavy" things (e.g., play games) when charging. But if you need do it, just do it. The phone has its own protective system if the temperature is too high.

  • How much time will note 3 neo take to charge its whole battery??my mobile is taking more than 3 and half hours to charge whole battery

    • It depends on the charger. In most regions, the official charger has a maximum current output of 2000mA. So, it should take about 2 hours.

If you are using a charger with 1000mA output, it will probably take you 3-4 hours to charge.

  • I have a Galaxy tab 3 please explain why it takes longer to get to 100% when it is off then when it is on.

  • MY NOTE 3 IF POWERED OFF EITHER MANUALLY OR DUE TO LOW BATTERY ( IF LEFT UNNOTICED AT NIGHT) DOES NOT RESTART ... WHY?

    • If you choose to power the phone off, you need start the phone by pressing and hold power button for a few seconds.

Restarting (shutdown + rebooting) only works if you choose to restart.

    • It's not necessary and it may shorten the life span of the phone.

Smartphones are designed to be always on unless it's not used for long time. Too many power cycles may be not good for the phone.

    • The official charger with the original USB 3.0 cable is the fastest way to charge the battery. Charging too fast may damage the battery or cause fire.

In Galaxy Note 4, the fast charging (with the fast charger) is only for first 50% of the battery levels. This makes the charging time from 0-100% in Note 4 is only about 30 mins faster than that in Note 3. So, I don't think there is not so much room for improvement based on current technology.

  • A week ago I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone. I plugged in the charger for the first time and then immediately turned the phone on and used it to finish the initial setup for about 5 minutes while the battery was charging. Only after that I read in the guide that I should have waited till it's charged before using it for the first time. I, of course, turned the phone off immediately and only had it on when the battery was fully charged. Has the initial usage while the phone was charging for the first time harmed or shortened the life of my battery? I use the phone moderately, not too much, not too little and the battery lasts for about 2 days.

    • Don't worry about it. It's not necessary to charge before using the phone. The battery usually have 50% capacity when leaving factory for you to test.

Just remember when charging the battery, you should wait till it is fully charged.

You may read this battery guide (it was written for galaxy S5, but it applies to Galaxy Note 3/4 devices as well) : http://galaxys5guide.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-battery-guide/

  • I charged my Note 3 to 100% at 10.15pm yesterday. In the setting, it shows 14 hours plus on battery. As of today, 12.45noon, the battery shows 20%. Normally, in the past 2 months, I only required to charge it once per 2 days. But now, it seems like I need to charge it within 24 hours.

Anything wrong with the phone or battery? Or what is the reason that cause the changes in the frequency of battery charging?

    Thanks in advance

    • Very likely, your phone failed to enter deep sleep state.

When you check the battery usage in settings - battery, it shows you how the battery was used (the percentage of battery used by each apps).

If you tap the chart, it gives more info.

You can then roughly figure out the possible caused of battery drain.

If you need help, take a screenshot of the 2 pages and share them with the community.

Of course, you can also just reboot the phone. It may solve the problem sometimes.

      • In the setting, the battery now shows 8h 40 m 46s on battery. My last charging time was this morning 6-8am.
The breakdown of battery usage as below:
        a) Android OS 41%
        b) Andriod System 13%
        c) Google play servive 6%
        d) Screen 4%
        and others less than 4%.

In the setting, under data usage, for periods 23-30 Nov, about 82.66 MB used. the breakdown as below:
        a) FB 18.76MB
        b) Google Chrome 13.89MB
        c) Waze 12.39MB
        d) whatsapp 7.49MB
        and the rest below 7MB

So, in your opinion, what is the root cause of the problem?

I'm new smart phone user. How to reboot my phone?

        Thanks.

        • What are the battery left?

It could be just be due to background processes. You can tap the battery plot and then get more info on when the phone is awake with screen off.

Anyway, to reboot the phone, press and hold the power button. You should get an option on the screen to turn off or restart. Choose restart.

          • Sorry, I can't recall last night battery %. But, now (Time 9.30am) it is 43% (10h 9m 0s). My last charging time was last night 9.15-11pm.

FYI, I restarted the phone this morning.
Also, yesterday I did 2 charging:
            a) Morning 6-8am
            b) Night, 9.15-11pm

Now, seems like I need to charge twice a day.
            I'm concern on this.

            Thanks.

  • Hi! It took me more than 6 hours to charge my note 3 and im using my original charger. Do you know what might be the problem? Thanks in advance

  • recently i formatted my phone in gallery due to battery heating problem.
when i receive phone afterwords battery full alarm is not working .

will u please help me out regarding this issue, any option in device to start agian.

    • Not necessary, as I know. You can use it once it is fully charged.

Actually, the new battery should have about 50% battery. It is sufficient for you to finish the initial setup before charging it.

You may refer to this guide on how to maintain your Galaxy Note 4 battery (it was written for Galaxy S5, but it works for Galaxy Note 4 as well): http://galaxys5guide.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-battery-guide/

  • Hi! My tablet has a problem in battery. I have drained it to 0% like trice this month. On the first one, the battery was fully charged to 100% I charger my tab when its in 5% below and its not anymore getting 100% it charged sometimes 92% sometimes 82%. What should do to make it charged 100%? I charge it from 10pm to 5pm so its like 7 hours. Thank you.

  • Is it better to charge it every so often I get the opportunity to charge it even if it's still 50% or above or should i rather wait it until it drained below 20%?
I heard it's not good if the battery cycle is drained completely too often, but is charging it frequently when it's not even half drained a better option?
Will it make the battery shortened its life and eventually needs to be charged that often?

    • it is not good to charge the battery too often. If you know the battery is enough before you can put the phone on the charger, it is not necessary to charge it.

anyway, when charging, wait till it is fully charged,

  • My galaxy note 3 neo battery indicator shows 100% for a long time after i disconnect the charger. When i restart it, then it reflects the actual battery indication.

  • I'm just using a typical Samsung charger for the Note 3 and it takes 12+ hours to charge to 100%. Should I get a new charger ...? Is this because the battery is bad or is it because of my charger? I'd want to know if the all-purpose charger with the micro thing would help.

  • i have Samsung galaxy note 3 with 2 batteries i charged but it piss me off for sure i miss a lot of things because of out of charge, it show 1% even if i charge
for 3 hours still keep showing me 1% this is crazy

  • I generally plug my Note 3 into my Linux PC for charging and data transfer. Is it necesary to unmount the Note 3 before I disconnect the cable? Thanks.

    • You should try to unmount the phone before unplugging the cable. The data writing is usually cached.

It's not a good idea to often charge the phone through pc due to unstable currents, which may result in inaccurate battery level reading.

  • Hi I just bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Extra Battery Kit. How long do I need to charge the new battery provided with the kit for the first time?....Could you also advice how long to charge subsequently?

    • About 2 hours normally. There is an led indicating the status.

The first charging time actually doesn't matter too much nowadays. Once it's full, you can discontent the power.

    • You need check the battery usage at Settings--battery. You need check the screen time and the apps that drain battery. Please try to get some numbers.

Battery usually can last 1-3 years unless you use the phone very heavily (e.g., charge it twice a day).

The temperature depends on the ambient temperature and the apps you are running. Usually, you should not worry about it unless the phone restarts itself.

  • Hi, does the galaxy note 3 or note 4's charger stop charging automatically when the phone is charged up to 100%?

  • Is it normal that my tablet charges so fast yet it drains fast as well ?
Or is it just my charger?
Lately my charger have this strange circle like shape near the end part of the cable
Should i change my charger to prevent this ?

    • You need check the charging rate for longer period time. For note 3,with the official charger, it should take about 2 hours+ from 5% to fully charged.

You can check battery usage in settings - battery. What's the battery life?

  • My note 3 Is not getting charged like before it became vryy slow... my original note 3 charger i gave to my dad bcoz he was going for 4 days somewhere out ... then i have brought my note 3 charger from outside i have charged my cell at night and in.morning i saw d charger was not working n it got spoiled like it got burned n my cell is also not getting charged now like before... now my dad also came n i checked with my origenal charger bt it's nt getting charged... pleasee help me what should i do now???

    • if the battery cannot be charged, you may have to get a replacement battery. Please try to get the official one from Samsung store. Of course, you can try to remove the battery and try again. You may also try it with another usb cable.

You should stay away from cheap chargers and cheap batteries. They can damage your expensive phones.

  • Is it safe to charge a galaxy tab even if its not fully drained? Will it affect battery life?

    • It should be fine. Actually, you should NOT completely drain your battery very often. It may have more damage to the battery.

Normally, you should charge the phone when it's below 15%. But each month, you may drain the battery to less than 5% once or twice to get more accurate readings of the battery level.

  • My note 3 battery is discharging while i charge my mobile...its depleting fast while i am using it...and its not charging as fast as it should...pl help..

    • Did you use the bundled charger and cable? If you charge it from a pc or notebook, it can be slow, but normally it should be faster than discharging.

If you have battery drain issue, you may install CPUspy to find out whether the phone can enter deep sleep state when not in use.

  • Hi.
Usually when battery is low my note3 goes automatically to power saving. It disable many features like wifi, screen resolution, screen rotation ect. But once it's fully charge it does not come back to normal features.
Is it normal to re switch all after charge.?
    Thank you.

    • Automatic power saving was triggered in note 3 when the battery level is less than 5%. It changes the brightness of the screen and disable mobile data. But it should not change the resolution.

You can always manually change it back at anytime, before or after the charging.

Yes, data connection must be enabled manually. Brightness is not necessary.

  • if I left the mobile (note 3) all night being recharged . will that harm the battery or shorten its life time as it is being connected to the charger after it be 100% recharged without being unplugged for many hours ?

    • If the charger and cable are good, but you still cannot charge the phone. You may visit local Samsung service centre to have the phone checked. If could be faulty battery or the connector or some other hardware problems.

Except water damage, in most regions, hardware problems added coveted under warranty (battery may only have 6 month warranty; other parts should have one year warranty).

    • If the phone was shutdown automatically due to low battery, it may resume once connected to a charger.

If your manually powered it off, you can charge it when it's off. Of course, the screen can always be turned on to check the charging status.

Led is always on during charging. Red means not fully charged yet.

      • My note 3 Led is always red even though the status on the screen shows charge 100% when the phone is turn on. But when I turn off the phone it just shows charging . It doesn't show a picture of 100%

        • 100% is not charged. If your Note 3 battery is fully charged, it will show "charged", and you will also get a notification asking you to disconnect the charger.

The LED color is usually reliable. If it is red, it means it is still charging.

    • For modern batteries, it actually is not as important as before.

To be safe, you can leave it on the charger for a few hours after it is fully charged. If you need use the phone urgently, you can still use it whenever you want.

The good practice is to charge of to full before unplugging.

Also, the battery level msy be not accurate in the first a few days.

    • I don't think so. But once charging, you should wait until it is fully charged.

If your battery level is not accurate, you may use the battery until it's less than 5% once in a while to re-calibrate the battery level.

  • i do a full drain by letting my battery run out of power

So kindly what's ur Advice ?

    • You need fully drain the battery only occasionally. The battery level number may be not so accurate, especially after a fast drain.

          • It should not take so long. Make sure the cable is connected tightly.

You may try a few more times and record down the time needed to get it fully charged.

          • My note 3 is taking about 5 hours to charge using the OEM charger and cable. It just came back from repair to which they replaced the battery and updated the software. Im assuming from your note above that taking this long is not normal?

          • It's too long for the original charger. What's the current output of the OEM charger? It should be printed on the charger.

  • Can I unplug the micro usb while pluged into electricity while my tablet is on. I get a message to unplug when I turn it on if still plugged in, I also leave it plugged in while playing games if I'm on for hours, thank you?

    • you can unplug the cable at any time. Of course, it s better until the battery is fully charged. You got the message because the battery is fully charged. It is not necessary to turn off tablet for charging.

you can also use the tablet while charging.

      • You should not turn off the phone frequently as you may miss some important calls. It is also not necessary to turn off the phone often.

Normally, you leave the phone on when charging. Once it is full, unplug it. Try not to use it heavily (e.g., playing games) when charging.

      • Well, I have one question to ask you.
I just bought galaxy note 3 for a couple days but here come the problem, when it reaches 20% the device will turns off.
What can I deal with this? Please tell me, thanks in advance

        • Is it a pre-owned set? Did you check the battery? is it original? What's the manufacturing date?

If the battery has been used for sometime, the indicator may be not accurate.
