You probably should leave the background process at least one. Otherwise, some apps may not work properly.
Yes, you can disable the notification for individual apps in JB. In Application manager, tap the app, you can uncheck “show notifications” (behind force stop). Then confirm.
Alternatively, when you get the notification, long press the notification, the “app info” should pop out, and you can then un-check the show notifications.
